Lead poisoning prevention program, nursing, and
environmental staff jointly work to reduce the potential for lead exposure in children. To accomplish this, the
Health Department provides leadership and coordination of lead activities in the County, serves as a resource for
current information on legislation, sources of lead exposure, medical treatment and abatement methods and educates
health professionals in the community at large about risk reduction measures and the dangers of lead poisoning.
Nursing staff provide testing of children ages 9 months to 6 years and case manage elevated leads, providing necessary
follow-up and retesting in conjunction with private physicians. Environmental health staff perform home inspection
and education in abatement measures on elevated leads. |
