Many members of the community have requested information on the proper disposal of needles (sharps) produced from the home. Needles should be placed in an empty plastic detergent container or coffee can, and when full, the cap should be placed on the container and securely fastened. The container should then be placed in a clear plastic garbage bag for disposal. This is the only method for disposal of needles at curbside in Chemung County. Please call us with any questions. This policy applies ONLY to needles generated from residents. Nursing homes, hospitals, physician's offices and other commercial establishments MUST make arrangements with private companies to have them collected and hauled away by properly licensed haulers.
