ALL LOADS MUST BE TARPED TO GAIN ENTRANCE

Location: 1690 Lake St., Elmira, NY
   
Directions: From Horseheads, Route 17, turn south onto South Main Street a.k.a. Lake Road. Travel south for approximately 2.5 miles. The entrance is on the left after the Mark Twain Motor Inn.

From Chemung, Route 17, take Church Street exit into Elmira. Turn north (right) at "Madison Avenue" light (by Dunkin' Donuts). Travel north past Burger King (at that point Madison Ave. changes into "Lake Street"). Travel north of Artistic Plaza traffic light one-quarter mile. The entrance is on the right, across from the Unclaimed Freight Furniture Store.

MATERIAL ACCEPTED FOR DISPOSAL AT THE SHREDDER STATION:

These items can be mixed:

  • Household solid waste, pizza boxes, toys, diapers, food waste, empty dry paint cans with lids removed, plastic film, aerosol cans, paper towels, frozen food, boxes, leaves and grass, construction and demolition material in clear plastic bags, etc.

These items MUST be separated:

  • Appliances, metal, tire rims, stoves, washers, dryers, couches, stuffed furniture, carpets, tires, mattresses (NO refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners or dehumidifiers can be accepted).


MATERIAL ACCEPTED FOR RECYCLING AT THE RECYCLING FACILITY BUILDING:

These items are accepted free of charge if separated correctly:

  • Clean and dry cardboard, dry newspapers, aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic jugs, metal cans, single layer cardboard (like shoe boxes & cereal boxes), office paper, junk mail, magazines, phone books, pages out of hardcover books, etc.

POLICY ON BALLASTS AND FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS:

  • We accept green marked or green-ended flourescent tubes for disposal if delivered WHOLE only at the Shredder Station. We do not accept any broken tubes. We will not accept any flourescent tubes at the Landfill or Construction and Demolition Cell. NO EXCEPTIONS. There is a fee for this disposal.
  • We DO NOT accept any ballast. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • We accept regular flourescent tubes (silver tipped or NO green markings) at the Shredder Station only. They MUST BE WHOLE AND UNBROKEN. NO EXCEPTIONS. There is a fee for recycling these tubes.

For broken tubes, ballasts and large quantities of flourescent bulbs, we suggest you contact one of the following licensed hazardous material handlers:
